Women Who Build: Andrea Seymour

Welcome to Le Femme Foundry, where we spotlight trailblazing women redefining leadership and reshaping their industries. This week, we’re thrilled to feature Andrea Seymour, CEO of Springdale Custom Builders in Charlotte, North Carolina—a leader transforming the custom home-building experience.

Nine years ago, Andrea and her husband founded Springdale Custom Builders to design exceptional homes while offering a seamless, transparent process. Recognizing the challenges in the industry, they set out to make building a custom home as enjoyable as it is significant.

Andrea credits her success to resilience and community. From supporting her team to celebrating client milestones, she approaches her work with purpose and passion. As a member of the Tory Burch Foundation and Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses, she’s built a network of support and collaboration that inspires her to keep raising the bar.

Join us as we explore Andrea’s journey, her leadership insights, and how she’s creating homes—and experiences—that truly stand out.

Can you remember the first moment you thought, “Oh, this is going to work“?

In 2022, we were names the 4th fastest growing, privately held company in Charlotte, NC by the Charlotte Business Journal – that was very validating. I’ve always known it would “work,” but this was a very nice public recognition of our hard work coming to life.

What’s the riskiest thing you’ve done in business?

Leaving my very well paying corporate job was very risky – but i’ve never regretted it or looked back for a second.

If your business were a song, what would be its anthem?

“Unstoppable” by SIA

Did you ever consider throwing in the towel? If so, why didn’t you?

Never… failure isn’t an option. My husband and I own and run our company, our family’s entire livelihood relies on our success.

Who has mentored you and how have they shaped your view on business and being a female founder?

I have had many mentors that I’m grateful for. My fellowship and ongoing involvement in the Tory Burch Foundation has been incredibly impactful on me as a business owner and a woman. To be a part of such an incredible organization and community that is so focused on us as individuals, and have their support behind us is truly incredible and inspiring.

How do you celebrate wins, both big and small, in your business?

We celebrate everything! I am a very celebratory person in general, and I love getting excited with the team in big and small ways. If we close a big project, I love to break out a bottle of champagne in the office. We also love to do monthly team lunches at a restaurant a team member selects that we can all walk to together to just celebrate one another and take a breath.

What’s a skill you didn’t realize you’d need as a founder, but now consider indispensable?

Pure tenacity. I don’t have it in me to give up… I’ve never really had the option. Because of this, I push through even when it’s hard – sometimes really hard – to get the job done. When you own the business, there’s no one else to blame except yourself when the shit hits the fan – and so you figure it out, pick yourself up and keep moving. Don’t look back – you aren’t going that way 🙂

How do you define and measure success?

Ultimately? Our P&L. But along the way, we measure it with how many livelihoods we are able to provide, how much impact we are able to have in our community, and how much we grow as individuals each year.

What’s a business decision you made purely on gut instinct, and how did it turn out?

While I definitely don’t make a decision if my gut instinct is against it, I don’t think I make any decisions purely based on my gut… there has to be fact and reason behind the decisions we make to ensure they are sound. Risks are good, as long as they’re calculated.

What’s your guilty pleasure after a long day of hustle?

Massages. Frequent massages.

How do you set boundaries between your personal life and business when everything feels intertwined?

That is very difficult – especially when you and your husband run your company together. The lines blur – that’s just the reality of it. We do the best we can to “not bring it home” but it does happen most days. We love what we do and it’s a lot of fun, bringing people’s dreams to life. We never really stop – we always have ideas – we’re both big dreamers. It makes it fun – but it can be tiring at times. I schedule vacations regularly to ensure we’re taking time to breathe and reconnect as a family.

Thank you for being part of our mission to celebrate women’s achievements and amplify their stories. We’re excited to share more inspiring journeys in the weeks ahead—because when women rise, we all rise.
